Standup comedy is known for the live performance of any comedians, funny storyteller, poet, etc. where they entertain and engage the audience with their sense of humor, jokes and funny storytelling abilities. In most of the comedy acts, comedians use props, music, dance, and magic tricks to make their performance more funny and entertaining.

Are you aware of Chakyar Koothu ? it was the prominent form and platform for standup comedian in Trivandrum & Kerela in 16th & 17th Century.
During 80’s, most of the comedians performed as a supporting act in any dance shows, plays, etc.
In 1986 India got new talent in comedy - Jonny Lever, his skills and sense of humor was appreciated when he was performing for a charity show named “Hope 86” in front of the Indian entertainment industry, his performance was enjoyed, loved and recognized by everyone. His talent was then acknowledged and his journey of success started as a comedian in the Indian Cinema.
As the years passed by, The Indian Entertainment Industry understood the serious business of comedy and accepted wholeheartedly more and more talents in the comedy industry.
In the era of 2005 to 2008, many TV channels launched their programs as standup comedy shows and discovered more talents of comedy like - Raju Srivastava, Kapil Sharma, Krishna Abhishek, Sudesh Lehri, Bharti Sharma, Sunil Pal, kiku sharda, Sunil Grover etc.
Growth of Standup Comedian in an Entertainment Industry
The trend of comedy shows, movies, and standup comedy acts took huge space in the entertainment industry. Every GEC channel having at least one comedy show at a time and most of the action and senior actors are also exploring and testing their comic skills. These shows and movies are loved and liked by the Indian and international audiences.
Since 2011 Indian comedy achieved more fame and appreciation in the eye of international entertainment standard and then the comedy store from London opened an outlet in Mumbai Palladium Mall where people enjoy comedy regularly from the UK. They have given more opportunities to local talents
Future of Standup Comedy/ Comedian
Comedy trend is never going to be bygone at any time or level because everyone wants to be happy and smiley faces give pleasant and memorable impacts. Changes and modifications are the keys to success, so some aspects should be updated from time to time.
