Nightclubs in the "Entertainment Capital of the World" offer something for everyone. From world class DJs rocking massive dance floors in historic buildings, to intimate venues showcasing local talent, here are the top 10 nightclubs in Hollywood.

AVALON HOLLYWOOD

One of the most storied clubs in Los Angeles, Avalon Hollywoodopened as The Hollywood Playhouse in January 1927. The Spanish Baroque style venue has hosted everything from The Beatles' first West Coast performance to Richard Nixon's famous "Checkers speech" to the final show by the Ramones. During its heyday as The Palace, the venue was an infamous nightclub in the 1970s; the U.S. launch pad for "Second British Invasion" bands in the '80s; and the site of early performances by rock bands like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden in the 1990s.

In September 2002, The Palace was bought by its current owners and renamed Avalon Hollywood. The nightclub became a West Coast mecca for electronic music, with groundbreaking residencies from world class DJs like Sasha, Matthew Dear and Erick Morillo; as well as notable performances by Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Eric Prydz, Hot Since 82, Paul Oakenfold and Fatboy Slim. Hailed as one of the best clubs in Hollywood, Avalon hosts the long-running Control every Friday night, and the 18+ TigerHeat on Thursdays. Avalon recently installed a top-of-the-line sound system with massive 40” subwoofers, the largest ever installed in a club.

BOULEVARD3

The brainchild of Skybar partner Peter Famulari, Boulevard3 is located inside the former Hollywood Athletic Club, which was founded in 1924 by Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino and Cecil B. DeMille. Boasting a galaxy of Golden Age Hollywood stars as members, the HAC was designed by Meyer & Holler, the architectural firm that also built the TCL Chinese and Egyptian Theatres.

Opened in September 2006, Boulevard3 was conceived as an "English manor house with modern insides” - a mix of Old World charm and state of the art audio visual systems. From Sunset Boulevard, you'll enter Boulevard3 through a large iron gate and step into a landscaped English courtyard. An intimate library leads into a 7,500 square-foot, three-level ballroom. Guests dance to hip hop, top 40, and house on a 1,500 square foot dance floor (the HAC's former Olympic-sized swimming pool, where Johnny Weissmuller was "discovered" and then cast in the title role of 1932's Tarzan the Ape Man).

STATION1640

Station 1640 lies in the shadows of the big Hollywood dance clubs like Avalon and Sound, but this Cahuenga Boulevard venue has no shortage of beats to keep you grooving. The club is the home of the weekly Wednesday night party Clinic, which has honed a reputation over several years for bringing in a global mix of up-and-coming and established underground DJs to a neighborhood that's better known for superstar draws. Moreover, the cover tends to be pretty reasonable given the caliber of talent on the decks. Other recent events have included parties from long-running Monday Social and local techno label Minimal Sessions. If you're serious about dance music, 1640 is a can't-miss Hollywood nightclub.
